My Pocket Homie

Is it just me or is Dusty looking more and more like a Homie these days?

What's Sarong With You?

So...if I were to ever make a top ten list of why my family is the coolest, these pictures would definitely make the cut:

Anatomy of a Pre-Nursing Student

Today I had my first class as a pre-nursing student. While there's really nothing interesting to report, I do think I will share this one little tidbit of information: This was the first class I have ever had in my entire college career that passes out a syllabus and a handout entitled "Student Survival Guide to Anatomy and Physiology I."

So I suppose I will take this moment to wish myself good luck and let you all know that if you haven't seen me in a while, come by my house. I may have been crushed under the weight of my new anatomy book. :)

Feeling Pensive

I have a friend who just turned eighty-eight
and she just shared with me
that she's afraid of dying.
I sit here years from her experience
and try to bring her comfort

I try to bring her comfort

But what do I know? What do I know?

She grew up singing about the glory land

and she would testify how Jesus changed her life.

It was easy to have faith when she was thirty-four

but now her friends are dying
and death is at her door.
And what do I know? What do I know?

Well I don't know that there are harps in heaven

or the process for earning your wings.

And I don't know of bright lights at the end of tunnels

or any of these things.

She lost her husband after sixty years

and as he slipped away, she still had things to say.

Death can be so inconvenient.

You try to live and love. It comes and interrupts.

And what do I know? What do I know?

Well I don't know that there are harps in heaven

or the process for earning your wings.

And I don't know of bright lights at the end of tunnels

or any of these things.

But I know to be absent from this body

is to be present with the Lord,

and from what I know of him,
that must be pretty good.
Oh I know to be absent from this body

is to be present with the Lord,

and from what I know of him,

that must be very good.

Arguing Prepositions With A Two Year Old

Here is a recent conversation I had at work. The kids were walking outside around the building (wet playgrounds are such a bummer) and were instructed to stay within the yellow no parking lines painted on the asphalt as cars often come quickly through the parking lot. (Click here for a visual.) This particular child was walking the outer yellow line, much like one would walk a tightrope...

Me: "Molly, stay on the yellow please."
Molly: "I am on the yellow." (as she walks the yellow line)
Me: "Ok, stay in the yellow then."
Molly: (looking puzzled) "I am in yellow."
Me: "No, you're on the yellow. I said stay in the yellow."
Molly: "I am on and in yellow."
Me: "No you're... [insert look of defeat here] ...just hold my hand."

Christmas Overview

Here is my Christmas break in snapshot form: Gatlinburg with the future in-laws (including one terrifying horse back tour), Kansas City to visit my family, and of course, how could I forget: my first wedding shower!

Though Dusty and I had a great time relaxing and hanging out with our families and each other, for the first time ever I think I can say that I am glad to be back in Kentucky. Maybe it is becoming home after all.

Speaking of being back...I saw this bumper sticker in a parking lot today and thought to myself, "Welcome home!"

Feelin' Great in 2008!

Happy New Year!

2008...the year of BIG THINGS:

~college graduation
~getting married
~starting nursing school
~best friend getting married

This leaves me wondering: how much can be packed into 366 days? (For yes, this year is a leap year!)

Things for this upcoming year are shaping up to look very interesting...very interesting indeed.
