NPR Nerd

I heard this quirky little story on NPR yesterday on Morning Edition and just had to share it with you:

I love the tour guide, he's my favorite part.

Just Being Curious & Stuff

I like to keep a pulse on what current real estate rental prices are going for. I feel like it's a responsible thing to do since part of Dusty's compensation comes with a delightful little *free* place to live. I want to be prepared for what's facing us once we get back into the real world.

Also I like to look inside other people's houses. :)

So I'm looking at rentals in Campbellsville and came across this little gem: (you may need to click on it to enlarge and take in the full hilarity)

Oddly specific?

Computer Cat

It's widely known around here (a.k.a. in the youth group) that we have a cat and this cat has "thumbs."
And when we have people over, the first thing they say when they see the cat (he does have a name... Rudy) is, "What happened to his paws?!"

This is said with a mix of terror, disgust, and unbridled awe.

Well today I was finally, FINALLY able to document this phenomenon. Behold!

Complete with random claw the grows perpendicular to the rest of them!

So now when you come to my house you won't have to be scared. He's harmless, after all.

That is, unless you're a rodent. Then he's your worst nightmare.

Going Through Dusty's "Old Life"

Recently my mother-in-law hauled over about a bazillion boxes and trash bags full of Dusty's old stuff that had been lurking in their basement. Today I finally got around to going through it all. I found some pretty entertaining things, but the following are my favorites: (be prepared to laugh!)

Star Wars Episode II Collector Cereal Box #1 (did not photograph #2, which we also have)

But wait, there's more! Includes a sample of each marshmallow!

The Complete Book of Swords by Fred Saberhagan (can you BELIEVE the appropriateness of this last name?!)

I thought we should save this so I could tell whether or not Dusty was on an LSD high.

Dusty's manuscript called Murder in the Night, written in 7th grade. Staring Agent Michael Scarn. :)

A Blink 182 album inside a Third Day cd case (we laughed for about 5 minutes straight about this)

Numerous (band) trophies, generously modeled by our very own thumbed cat

And last but not least, 7 candy canes

Spring Time Kentucky

Kentucky is most glorious in its early spring. My friend Luke wrote an amazing little piece which I urge you to read here.

If you live here, be happy.

If you don't, come visit!

Night Trees

I had this big plan back in November when I bought my new camera. I was going to really learn the in's and out's and be all camera savvy and wise by the end of this year.

I'd like to go ahead and say that that plan is not coming along very well. If my friends didn't keep popping out babies I wouldn't have even used the Nikon half as much as I have!

In conjunction with this, I have this thing for how trees look at dusk. I don't know why, I just love their silhouettes and how the background is lit up behind them with this beautiful golden-amber color. It's delightful. So tonight I decided to try my hand at Night Trees using longer exposures and the roof of my car. (Because sadly, I am without tripod.)

Here's my first attempt:

Nothing is on focus and you can see the roof of my car, but I sorta, kinda like it. This was taken around 8:45 pm.

Here's my fluke, actually-cool-looking-shot-that-I-accidentally-took:

Look at that! This one was taken around 9:00 pm. Maybe I'll get the hang of this after all.

Maundy Thursday

John 17:1-5
Jesus said these things. Then, raising his eyes in prayer, he said:
Father, it's time.
Display the bright splendor of your Son
So the Son in turn may show your bright splendor.
You put him in charge of everything human
So he might give real and eternal life to all in his charge.
And this is the real and eternal life:
That they know you,
The one and only true God,
And Jesus Christ, whom you sent.
I glorified you on earth
By completing down to the last detail
What you assigned me to do.
And now, Father, glorify me with your very own splendor,
The very splendor I had in your presence
Before there was a world.
